ABOUT THE PROJECT
What’s the idea behind the NUSHU project? We believe that children are every bit as interested in the world around them and have as much right to information as adults. In addition, we believe being informed and developing critical faculties should be a fascinating adventure, something that inspires them to discover, to learn and to investigate new things. In short, we want to give them a magmatic time while they learn. In a world where they are bombarded with all sorts of information from all sides, real and fake, turning the fact of being informed into an exciting challenge seems to us our greatest contribution to improving society.
Why do you cover only international news? Because we live in a global world where what happens in one part of the planet also affects the rest. NUSHU is an international project that covers topics from this perspective. NUSHU’s mission is to understand what is happening in our world and, therefore, it travels from one place to another while investigating issues of broad interest.
Something very important happened this week and NUSHU doesn’t talk about it. Why is that? NUSHU needs time to research the matter thoroughly and make reports for its species. NUSHU needs to illustrate it with pictures and to ask Earthlings to help. What’s more, NUSHU sometimes gets a little bit distracted preparing a magmatic 3D game for each news item or with conversations with the octopus Tulu and the opossum Zuko. We can’t help that! We think it’s more important to spend time on each report than to rush. Besides, R.I.T.A, its spaceship, would not let NUSHU do otherwise.
What will I find? You will find a NUSHU mission about an aspect of international current affairs in both hardcopy and the NUSHU AR EDUapplication for mobiles and tablets. You will find a comic strip with the information explained visually on paper and an interactive dialogue with the character and a game on the augmented reality platform. And you will find a guide with suggested activities linked to each subject to develop in class.
In this video you can see what the missions are like.
How does it work? First, you create your account. When we verify it, you will receive a message with the key codes you need to log in. In your profile you will find the list of missions that you can download. You can also find them in the associated newspapers. When you download the NUSHU AR EDU application from the Android and iOS stores you can activate the AR content.
Can I activate augmented reality from my computer? Technically it is possible if you view the mission in PDF on the computer screen or look at it using a mobile or tablet. However, it is best to have the printed version of the mission.
Do I need a special device for the NUSHU AR EDU application? You can activate the NUSHU AR EDU application on mobile phones and tablets running Android (from version 2.3.1) or iOS (from iOS version 9.3) operating systems. Remember to switch on the camera and audio, and make sure you have adequate storage to be able to download the missions.
I can’t access my account. To log into your account you need to receive the verification email.
I can’t change my data. Make sure you have cookies enabled. If not, you won’t be able to make changes. It can also happen if you're using your browser's incognito option.
ABOUT YOUR SUBSCRIPTION
What’s included in the subscription? You get unlimited access to all previously published missions and to new ones that appear every week in both hardcopy and augmented reality activated through our NUSHU AR EDU application. Augmented reality gives you access to dialogues and games.
In the catalogue you will find the list of available missions and a description of their contents.
I can’t download the missions. Make sure you have your device's storage permission enabled.
Everything is black. I can’t see anything. Make sure you have the camera turned on. The NUSHU AR EDU app needs to have specific permission to use the camera and it’s easy to forget to enable it.
I can’t see NUSHU. NUSHU likes natural light. Make sure you have enough light and that the Lavonic dialogue boxes can be seen. Focus on them and wait a little. If you still can’t see anything, remove the device, shake it and refocus. If you still have the same problem, it’s possible that there was an error in the download. Check that you have storage permission enabled. If not, enable it and download the application and the mission again.
The app stopped working. That’s dreck! It's strange, but if it happens, close the application correctly and re-open it.
The NUSHU AR EDU app is very slow. Make sure you don’t have too many applications open at once. If so, it can be a bit slow. The speed will always be determined by the capacity of the device and the memory that the applications need.
Why can’t I download the missions? They appear disabled. If they are deactivated it is because either you have not entered your user account details correctly or you haven’t activated the payment subscription, depending on which profile you have.
The game has stopped. It is possible that if move your device too far away from the paper to see the 3D really well, you end up focusing your device on both codes or Lavonic messages at once. This creates a problem in the system and the game has difficulty restarting.
I do not understand what the game is about. The teachers’ guides explain how the game works. You can also check out the tutorial that accompanies each game.
The 3D comes out back to front. Move the camera away from the marker and refocus it. Sometimes, if the light is poor or the perspective is faulty, NUSHU comes out back to front. Poor little Lavonic!
